TRAFFIC UPDATE -- 11 May
Well, since I finally have a little time to write, I'm about to begin really promoting Blog Help. I'm going to pull out all the stops & see how much traffic that I can generate over the next month, and you're welcome to tag along for the ride. I'll keep you informed via these "TRAFFIC UPDATE" posts, and try to get one up at least daily.
I had not intended to make any attempts at promoting this site until I felt like everything was ready. Well, I guess that time's come, and I know that if I don't do it sooner or later, it won't get done at all. :-)
In case some of you are curious as to where everything's at so far, I'll try to catch you up...
I officially opened Blog Help on 25 April with an Introduction post & followed it with 25 reprinted articles to kick everything off. The Blogger powers-that-be flagged me as a possible splog & shut me down for a couple of days until my new blog could be reviewed by a living, breathing human, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend mass-posting to start things off. Over the next couple of days, I think Blog Help had a grand total of around 8 visitors, one or two of which may have been me... ;-)
During the first two weeks, I scrapped the template in favor of a new one, and I'm still making changes (or changing stuff back). I'll tell you all about it, and direct you to the folks who dreamed up or inspired some of these tweaks & hacks when I get around to that (I'll have to dig back through my records for links and all the particulars).
About a week ago, I set up a del.icio.us category system using Technorati tags (WAY too many, actually -- I'll go back & clean that up a little later). I wanted to set up categories for all the topics that I might delve into, and got a little carried away. :-) Anyway, when I posted all those pages (26 in total) to del.icio.us and applied the Technorati tags, opening accounts on both of those sites, it brought about 20 new visitors.
A few days ago, Google released the new Google Pack with all kinds of goodies. I thought that might be a good opportunity to write an article for submission to the free-content sites, so I got a little ahead of myself & went for it. Over the two days that followed, 10 new visitors trickled in, but those were apparantly blog surfers who came from within blogspot, most probably via the Navigation bar. It's been 5 or 6 days now, and on creativeideas.com the article itself has had 20 views with 2 syndication requests, and 5 downloads at goarticles.com. I plan to submit it to a few more sites, so I can get a good comparison, but I haven't had time. I'll let you know what comes of it when I do. If you're curious about the article, I posted it here on 5 May 2006 -- just check the archives. If you'd like to use it on your site, you can pick up a ready-to-post version at GoArticles. As with anything that you find here, you're welcome to use it on your site or in your newsletter. All I ask is that you credit me as the author and provide a link back to Blog Help -- http://blog-help-1.blogspot.com/
Should you choose to steal my original content, I'll hack into your site and post links to the Richard Simmons Fan Club all over your homepage, and maybe do something with a Teletubbies background. No, seriously, if you want to use my content, or reference it, provide a link. I should have a trackbacking thingee set up in the next day or two, so you'll get a link back.
What else is new? I installed some bookmarklet icons in the post footers, started an account with Feedburner, put newsreader chicklets in the sidebar, opened an account with Zookoda, and added a newsletter subscription form in the sidebar. I've got a couple of ideas that I think will be a lot of fun here. I won't say what they are yet, but I should have them up sometime next week. Whew! Stay tuned...
Back to the headcount... As of this a few minutes ago, we've had a total 48 unique visitors, and 209 page views over the past 6 days, according to MyWebStats.org. I have 3 counters on Blog Help at the moment, but I think that I like that one the best. Later on, I'll be reviewing all the ones that I've tried.
Tonight, I plan to submit this site to Search66 and !tzalist Computers Directory. There's a ton of places on my list, but those seem to be as good a place as any to start.
Well, that's where everything stands now. I'll let you know when something changes...
:-)
